The airline has its main hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from where it operates scheduled flights to 53 destinations in 41 countries using a fleet of 40 aircraft. Kenya Airways has three subsidiaries: African Cargo Handling Limited, Jumbo Jet and Kenya Airfreight Handling Limited. The airline was founded in 1977 as a result of the dissolution of East African Airways. Kenya Airways commenced its flight operations on 4 February 1977 and underwent privatization in 1996. However, it went on to retain its status of Kenya's national airline and is currently co-owned by KQ Lenders Company, KLM and the Kenyan Government. It joined the African Airlines Association as early as 1977 and became a full member of SkyTeam global airline alliance in June 2010. It has codeshares with several airlines including Aeroflot, Air France, EgyptAir, KLM, Korean Air and Hong Kong Airlines.
