About 300 miles far from the northeast part of Victoria Falls lies the rapid-developing city of Lusaka. Named after an early 20^th century Nyanja chief, Lusaka is the largest city and Zambia’s capital. It’s at the edge of the bush which makes it a commencing point for safari tourism but holds its own identity with a traditional culture of bartering and markets.

A tourist-friendly set-up can be found at Kabwata Cultural Village on Burma Road. This market is worth a visit for sure, for not only does it stock tribal crafts and traditional wares, but also offers a flavour of Zambia’s oldest culture. Soweto Market is one of the most popular and biggest market hosting everything from bicycle repairmen to grocery stalls. It is a bustling commercial centre created for locals, but be aware, not to get distracted by the goings-on and become a target of pickpockets. Animals tend to congregate around waterholes and rivers between May and September, making it ideal for safaris.
