As the national airline of Brunei Darussalam, Royal Brunei Airlines is wholly owned by the Brunei government. The airline is headquartered at Bandar Seri Begawan and manages its operations from its main hub at Brunei International Airport in Berakas. SkyLounge at the Brunei International Airport is exclusively reserved for first and business class passengers as well as Royal Skies Silver and Gold members. Currently, it serves 16 destinations in Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia and the Middle East.

Royal Brunei was founded in 1974 and began its flying operations the following year with two Boeing 737-200 planes, serving Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. The airline does not serve alcoholic drinks on board. However, the passengers may bring one along for personal consumption. The airline has codeshares with China Eastern Airlines, Myanmar Airways International, Thai Airways Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, Hong Kong Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
